Lane & Waterman attorney Ian Russell successfully defended a north central Iowa hospital in a medical malpractice lawsuit where the plaintiff sought in excess $500,000. The suit alleged the plaintiff suffered spinal compression fractures during a seizure as the result of hospital staff leaving the plaintiff unattended. After a four-day trial, the jury returned a unanimous verdict in favor of the hospital, on February 8, 2018, awarding no damages to the plaintiff, and finding the hospital and its staff acted appropriately and met the standard of care.
