Lane & Waterman presents at Iowa Academy of Trial Lawyers Seminar



Last week, Bob Waterman, Mikkie Schiltz, and David Waterman presented at the Iowa Academy of Trial Lawyers (“IATL”) 63rd Annual Seminar. Here is the link to the seminar’s schedule: https://iowaacademyoftriallawyers.com/seminar/.
Bob, as Vice President of the IATL, organized the event and was the MC for it. A total of 42 speakers presented, including two Justices of the Iowa Supreme Court, one Chief Judge of the Iowa Court of Appeals, two Chief Judges of the Northern and Southern Districts of Iowa, four Chief District Court Judges, and 33 lawyers, and 247 were registered in attendance. On Thursday (2/27), Mikkie presented on “Using Jury Consultants and Mock Trials to Evaluate Cases & Prepare for Trial.” On Friday (2/28), David presented on “Eighth Circuit Civil Case Law Update, and Hot Topics for Internal Investigations and Grand Jury Subpoenas.” Bob now serves as President of the IATL until the next annual meeting, February 26-27, 2026.
Bob Waterman, Jr. joined the firm in 1981 and has focused his civil litigation practice for the defense primarily in the areas of professional malpractice, product liability, and insurance coverage litigation. He served as the firm’s Managing Partner from 2017 to 2021.
Mikkie R. Schiltz joined the firm in 2001 and focuses primarily on litigation, education, and employment law. She counsels clients on matters related to employment and education issues (including discrimination, harassment, and contractual obligations) and frequently speaks on the topic of discrimination and harassment.
David C. Waterman joined Lane & Waterman in 2020. His practice areas include civil litigation, white collar criminal defense, government regulatory and compliance, and appeals. Before joining Lane & Waterman, David spent more than four years serving as an Assistant U.S. Attorney at the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Florida in the Appellate and Criminal Divisions and clerked for three federal judges.
