Biography

Jeffrey B. Lang, a former United States Attorney and an FBI Agent, leads Lane & Waterman’s White Collar Criminal Defense practice. He vigorously defends individuals, corporations and other businesses entities in government investigations and prosecutions alleging economic crimes or other financially-motivated wrongdoing. He also has a wealth of experience in guiding clients through handling Grand Jury subpoenas, Civil Investigative Demands, Search Warrants and other government requests and demands for information. He does so ensuring the interests of Lane & Waterman clients remain fully protected. He is well-seasoned in defending matters under the False Claims Act and bank fraud statutes, disputes surrounding government contracts and a wide variety of conduct by corporate executives, managers and other personnel who find themselves under investigation for fraud, tax matters, money laundering, environmental issues, bribery, kickbacks, false statements, misappropriation and a host of other alleged economic offenses.

Jeff also heads Lane & Waterman’s Government Compliance practice. The ever-increasing volume of government statutes, rules and regulations has triggered a corresponding increase in civil, criminal and administrative enforcement actions, assessments of monetary penalties, and denials of benefits. Businesses and their executives do their best to adhere to the myriad of rules under which they operate. But with the incentives now available to “whistleblowers,” coupled with expanding efforts by the government to audit, investigate and prosecute individual and organizational wrongdoers, compliance efforts quickly become overwhelming for corporations and other businesses finding themselves targeted for adverse governmental actions. Jeff is well-equipped to navigate clients through those challenging times as well as during voluntary compliance efforts. In addition, he has substantial expertise in conducting internal investigations, consulting on corporate, business and other compliance policies, reviewing and auditing immigration, transportation and other compliance programs and procedures, establishing eligibility for farm program and other government benefits, challenging adverse actions and findings concerning a wide range of labor, tax, and other rules and regulations, facilitating appropriate compliance with subpoenas, court orders and search warrants, and otherwise interacting with government officials to ensure that the interests of Lane & Waterman clients are protected to the fullest.

Jeff received his B.S. from Northern Illinois University and his J.D. from the Salmon P. Chase College of Law, and is admitted to the practice of law in the states of Illinois, Iowa, Florida and Ohio as a well as in several federal trial and appellate courts.
