Summer Associate Introduction: Cami Hunter
The firm’s Summer Associate program offers law students practical legal experience following their first and second years of law school. During this program, Summer Associates engage in active client matters, and assist by, among other things, drafting briefs and transactional documents; participating in depositions, arbitration, and mediation sessions; attending client meetings; and observing courtroom procedures. We took the opportunity to speak with each associate to learn about their interests both within and beyond the legal field. Next up is Cami Hunter.
- What inspired you to choose law as a career?
- I wanted to pursue a career that provided me with the ability to help others in solving their problems or achieving their goals. The law gives me the ability to leave a positive impact on the people around me and my community no matter what area I end up practicing in, which is ultimately what inspired me to choose this career path.
- Tell us about a case you studied in law school that made a deep impact on you. Why did it resonate?
- The cases that I have studied that have made the greatest impact on me were ones that not only taught me the law but enabled me to better engage with discussions of current events and debates. For example, in my Health Care Quality & Regulation class we read the recent Alliance for Hippocratic Medicine v. FDA case, and having this knowledge enabled me to have a deeper understanding of the issues when I attended lectures and the Supreme Court oral arguments from this case. I appreciate it when studying cases in law school provides me with critical tools to be successful in my legal career, but also empowers me to be a more informed consumer of the world around me.
- What is the best piece of advice you’ve received?
- Going into law school I was given a piece of advice that before I was a law student I also had many other identities and things that mattered to me and not to lose sight of those things just because I was becoming a law student. I have really taken this advice to heart by intentionally making time for the other things that matter to me outside of law school, and I believe it has helped contribute to my success in school because it has helped keep me grounded. I hope to continue following this advice and to be able to continue to prioritize the things that matter to me outside of the law throughout my legal career.
- What is a non-legal hobby or interest you have that might surprise us?
- I really enjoy playing pickleball—it’s a great workout and lets me lean into my competitive spirit.
- What is a book/podcast you’re into right now?
- I am currently reading the book Invisible Women: Data Bias in a World Designed for Men by Caroline Criado Perez. I have heard it’s a thought-provoking book, and I am always striving to be an advocate for women, so I am excited to continue reading and learning more throughout the summer.
- Favorite Legal tv series or movie, preferred study snack, most used legal jargon:
- I recently began watching Suits when it came out on Netflix and have enjoyed that legal TV series. When studying, I love to find a coffee shop and have a coffee as a study pick-me-up
