We’re pleased to announce – Lane & Waterman partner, Alexander C. Barnett, was officially welcomed as the new President of the Scott County Bar Association for (2026 – 2027) term at the SCBA’s Annual Meeting in May 2026.
The Scott County Bar Association – is a professional organization of licensed attorneys that regulate the legal profession and advocates for its members in the Scott County area. These entities ensure that lawyers adhere to ethical codes, manage the state’s bar exam for new admissions, provide continuing education, networking, and support for attorneys.
The Scott County Bar Association presidents are typically elected by active memberships through a popular vote or chosen internally by the organization’s Board of Governors or Directors. The Scott County Bar Association uses a multi-step process to ensure leadership continuity. Prior to becoming the Scott County Bar Association’s president, Alex served as the association’s Vice President.
Alex joined Lane & Waterman in July 2017 and practices primarily in the area of litigation, with focus areas of; commercial litigation, construction law, professional malpractice, and products liability. Alex received his B.A., with distinction, in Economics and Philosophy from the University of Iowa and his J.D. from the University of Iowa College of Law.
Alex is currently a member of the Dillon Inn of Court, Scott County Bar Association, Iowa Bar, and American Bar Associations. He is also the former representative for Iowa’s Seventh Judicial District in the Iowa State Bar Association’s Young Lawyers Division. He currently serves on the Scott County Iowa Judicial Magistrate Appointing Commission.
Alex has been recognized by Best Lawyers: Ones to Watch in America in 2021 within the field of commercial litigation, and in 2023 within the fields of professional malpractice and litigation – labor & employment. These awards are peer-reviewed recognitions given to attorneys early in their careers for outstanding professional excellence in private practice.
